In a world that faces pressing environmental challenges, the fashion industry has a unique responsibility to drive change. At Steve Madden, our commitment is to champion and embed responsible environmental stewardship at every level of our operations and supply chain. By building robust systems to measure and track our carbon footprint, investing in certified materials that exert minimal or reduced impact on climate, nature, and/or people compared to conventional materials serving the same purpose. By forging collaborative partnerships with our suppliers, we strive to be a catalyst for change in the industry, setting an example for others to follow.
We joined LWG to support more environmentally responsible leather manufacturing. LWG aims to improve the leather manufacturing industry by creating alignment on environmental priorities, bringing visibility to best practices, and providing suggested guidelines for continual improvement.

We’re dedicated to incorporating more recycled and renewable materials into our packaging to conserve natural resources and minimize waste.
Our shoes boxes are made with at least 85% recycled content, printed with soy-based inks, designed without plastic, and optimized to minimize waste. Since 2023, all virgin pulp in our boxes certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).
In 2023, our footwear brands used recycled LDPE polybags for a reduction of CO2. By choosing polybags made with recycled content, we reduce the demand for virgin plastic, thereby limiting carbon emissions associated with plastic production.
We’re committed to reducing carbon emissions and managing environmental impacts in our supply chain because we believe the future depends on it.
In June 2023, the Science Based Targets initiative approved our carbon reduction targets to limit global warming in alignment with the 2015 Paris Agreement. We’re committed to:
We've conducted a thorough climate risk analysis to identify ways to effectively to meet our carbon reduction goals. Based on these findings, we’re developing a targeted strategy to reduce our carbon footprint and make meaningful progress.
We’re also partnering with our suppliers to assess and report on their environmental performance. We support our factory partners in tracking air emissions, energy use, waste, water, wastewater, and chemical management. This collaboration helps us better understand our supply chain, uncover opportunities to meet our environmental goals, and drive positive change across the fashion industry.
